Check with your instructor concerning which hour of the day and which venue their students will participating. Recitals can be a great motivator and barometer of progress. Music should be practiced with performing in mind. With performance as a goal, students always do a better job of bringing their music to a finished state. We encourage students of all levels to participate. You do not need to be a pro to perform in our recitals. | Talk with your instructor about your participation in this and other recitals. We want this to be a positive and motivating experience. Hope to see you there! |

Summer Music Lessons |
| Summer
is one of the best times to take music lessons!
Students are out of school, have no homework and in general, have more
time on their hands.
Learning to play an instrument requires a strong commitment and consistent practice. Students who take off for the summer, even those with the best of intentions, rarely practice and frequently quit altogether. Students who come back to their lessons after an extended break, especially beginners, quite often have |
forgotten
most of what they had learned and have to start all over. This is a common
source of frustration for not only students but teachers as well. We don’t
want to waste the money you have spent and all that your child has learned
by taking extended time away from lessons.
The Gwinnett School of Music will be closed June 30th through July 6th for our Summer Break. Hopefully many of your vacation plans will coincide with these dates. Also, keep in mind that |
during
the summer, our instructors usually have more flexibility in their
schedules. Consult with your instructor regarding your summer plans as
soon as possible.
Music is something a person can enjoy for a lifetime! Make your music lessons a year-round commitment. Your efforts are the seeds that will continue to grow and reap benefits for years to come. |

The Benefits of music |
||
| TORONTO
(Reuters Life!) - Those hours practicing piano scales or singing with a
choral group weren't for nothing because people with a background in music
tend to have a higher education and earn more, according to a new survey. The poll by Harris Interactive, an independent research company, showed that 88 percent of people with a post-graduate education were involved in music while in school, and 83 percent of people earning $150,000 or more had a music education. "Part of it is the discipline itself in learning music, it's a rigorous
|
discipline,
and in an ensemble situation, there's a great deal of working with others.
Those types of skills stand you well in careers later in life," said
John Mahlmann, of the National Association for Music Education in Reston,
Virginia, which assisted in the survey.
In addition to the practical skills gained from studying music, people questioned in the online poll said it also gave them a sense of personal fulfillment. Students who found music to be extremely or very influential to their fulfillment were those who had vocal lessons and who
|
played
in a garage band. Nearly 80 percent of the 2,565 people who took part in
the survey last month who were still involved in music felt the same way. "That's the beauty of music, that they can bring both hard work and enjoyment together, which doesn't always happen elsewhere," Mahlmann added in an interview. |
